Cell Interface Modules

Our EV Parts Cell Interface (CI) modules form the essential core of any Battery Management System. Their primary function is to meticulously monitor the voltage and temperature of every cell within the battery pack, providing the BMS Controller with precise, real-time internal data. Additionally, these modules incorporate fully independent cell balancing capabilities, actively ensuring that all cells in the pack maintain optimal balance.

8 Cell Interface – CI8

The CI8 is our most mature product, it has a track record of over 15 years of usage in many applications. The CI8 is housed in an aluminium chassis and encapsulated in thermally conductive potting to ensure the PCB is protected and that heat from balancing the cells can be efficiently dissipated.

Features:

  • Monitors up to 8 Cell voltages and 2 temperature sensors
  • 2kV working Isolation
  • 5kV withstand Isolation
  • 800mA passive balance current per cell
  • CAN communication
  • 12V or 24V optional
  • Zero parasitic drain from cells during operation or storage

12 Cell Interface – CI12

The CI12 is our upgraded version of the CI8, expanded to work with 12 cells, it is a great alternative to the CI8 and can be supplied with either waterproof connectors in a potted chassis for extreme environments, or as a conformally coated PCB with right angle connectors to suit applications where space is limited.

Features:

  • Monitors up to 12 Cell voltages and 6 temperature sensors
  • 2kV working Isolation
  • 5kV withstand Isolation
  • 600mA passive balance current per cell
  • CAN communication
  • 12V or 24V optional
  • Zero parasitic drain from cells during operation or storage

28 Cell Interface – MI28

Our most advanced Cell Monitoring Interface is our Motorsport Interface module (MI28). Originally developed for motorsport applications with very high voltage applications with over 100 series cells. Featuring dual 14 channel cell monitoring ASICs and dual CAN Bus interfaces to allow high traffic detailed cell data to be separated from slower summary data.

Features:

  • Monitors up to 28 Cell voltages and 14 temperature sensors
  • 1.2kV working Isolation
  • 5kV withstand Isolation
  • 600mA passive balance current per cell
  • 2x CAN Bus communication
  • Safety alert interface independent of MCU
  • 9 – 65V Operating range
  • 12V or 24V Optional LV supply
  • Flexible pack configuration

Battery Control

A battery control module is the brain of any high performance battery. Interpreting cell voltage and temperature information, controlling output contactors, interfacing with other devices in the system such as on board chargers and DCDC converters.

Dual CAN Current Sensor – CCS

The Dual CAN Current Sensor module (CCS) serves as a compact and reliable BMS master controller. Built around a high precision hall effect current sensor it packs a lot of functionality into an extremely compact package. It is equipped with dual independent CAN interfaces, four output drivers suitable for contactors, and 3 high-precision analogue input channels.

Features:

  • Monitors pack current up to +/-1200 Amps
  • Monitors two additional analog inputs
  • Logic to wake BMS on vehicle ignition signal
  • Four high side driver outputs
  • 2x CAN Bus communication
  • 12V or 24V optional
  • Low power sleep state

Precharge Discharge Module – PCD

The Precharge Discharge Module uses PTC current limiting resistors to facilitate the controlled matching of the battery’s DC output bus with connected devices.

Features:

  • Suitable for up to 1000Vdc
  • Thermally self-protected PTC resistors
  • DC bus short circuit protection fuse
  • Up to 4500uF DC link capacitance
  • >5000 operating cycles at full load
  • Optional coil suppression
  • Robust sealed connectors
  • NTC Thermistor monitoring

Insulation Monitor – IMD

Our Insulation Monitor ensures pack safety by monitoring the isolation resistance to ground.

Features:

  • Monitors insulation resistance to chassis ground
  • 4 Temperature sensor inputs
  • 4 Relay outputs
  • 2kV Working Isolation
